What An Odd Symbol
Lance bent down to get a better look. He was sure he had seen that symbol before, but he also knew he’d never seen it on a diaper.
But where had he seen it? And how did the symbol turn his life upside down in such a dramatic way?
Only the police knew that, and once they shared their story, his life would be ruined.
A Happy Couple
Lance and Rebecca Griffin were high school sweethearts who loved each other more than anyone else on the planet. At least, that was what Lance thought.
But his wife had secrets, and they were so big that they would end up breaking everything Lance held dear.
She forced him to make a choice he never wanted to make, and she would end up regretting it.
Nothing To Worry About?
Over the five years they had been together, Lance was sure he had nothing to worry about when it came to his relationship with his wife.
They shared everything with each other. Or at least that was what he thought.
But the truth was that he didn’t know her at all. Over time she had become a different person. And her true colors would be exposed before she could cover her tracks.
Stay At Home Dad
Lance was a stay-at-home dad who looked after his eight-month-old son while his mom was hard at work. As far as Lance knew, Rebecca worked for a major firm that specialized in making baby products.
And she earned enough money to make sure the family had a very comfortable life.
However, that wasn’t the case. It was just another one of the lies that made up the web Rebbeca had spun.
Noticing Something
One day, while Lance was watching his son, Cody, he realized something he had never seen before. The little boy seemed to be fascinated with his diaper. He was staring at it all the time.
At first, Lance thought the baby had noticed it for the first time and that he was mesmerized by what he saw.
But that opinion would change within a couple of days.
A Constant Thing
As the days passed, Lance noticed that it was a regular thing. Every time Cody had a chance, he would stare at his diaper like it was some otherworldly thing.
That was concerning Lance since his son had never done anything like that before. However, that was only the beginning of his problems.
What happened next would force him to act.
Concerned
A few hours after making his observation, Lance realized that the baby was constantly scratching himself. And he had become extremely irritated.
Lance thought he might just be tired and decided to check his diaper before putting him to bed.
But as soon as he pulled the onesie over the baby’s stomach, he saw a terrible rash.

Lance was stunned. He was sure that the rash wasn’t there the last time he did a diaper change. The worst part was that he didn’t know what caused it or how it managed to spread so fast.
As Lance was investigating the situation, he realized that the rash was more prominent in the areas where the diaper touched Cody’s skin.
That wasn’t all he realized, though.
What On Earth?
On the diaper’s waistband, there was a strange symbol. Lance was sure he had seen it before, but he couldn’t figure out where he knew it from.
That wasn’t the most baffling part of the whole incident, though.
The symbol, along with many others like it, seemed to have gotten brighter when they got in contact with a fluid.
A Professional Opinion
Knowing that this was out of his realm of expertise, Lance contacted Cody’s pediatrician, Dr. Grober. Luckily, the doctor wasn’t busy at the time and decided to see Cody within an hour.
Relieved, Lance got his son ready, and the two of them made their way to the clinic.
But what the doctor would uncover was something that Lance never thought he would have to deal with.
Not What He Expected
Dr. Grober did a thorough exam and found that the rash wasn’t the only thing that was wrong with little Cody. Even though the baby looked healthy, it seemed like something was affecting him.
He was much weaker than he should’ve been, and his irritability was caused by the fact that he was incredibly tired.
Any other doctor would’ve diagnosed him with chicken pox, but Dr. Grober wasn’t convinced.
Samples And Tests

The doctor listened to the baby’s lungs, did a couple of x-rays, and ran some blood tests before prescribing some cream for the rash and sending Lance on his way.
Days Pass
The doctor told Lance that it could take up to a week to get the results back, but by the third day, his nerves were shot.
The cream helped to soothe the rash, but it didn’t take it away. And it did absolutely nothing about the other symptoms Cody had.

No Answers
Lance didn’t want to worry his wife with something that could end up being nothing. So he decided to keep quiet until he heard what the doctor had to say.
But he still didn’t have any answers, and he knew it was only a matter of time before Rebecca found out that he was keeping things from her.
But what else could he do? She was already so stressed.
Keeping Secrets
Lately, Rebecca had been putting in a lot of overtime, and because of that, she hardly spent time at home. Plus, the work was really getting to her.
She was incredibly moody, and she would snap at the smallest of things.
And that was exactly what happened when she found the medical bill that arrived sooner than Lance thought it would.
A Frantic Phone Call
After he told her that Cody was a little under the weather, she dropped it and went to work. It was a huge relief, but it would be short-lived.
Mere minutes after Rebecca stormed out of the house, Lance received a call from the doctor, and he was frantic.
He demanded that Lance bring Cody and the diapers to his office right away.
Heading To The Office
From the panic in the doctor’s voice, Lance could tell that the situation was serious, so he wasted no time. He strapped his son in and sped to the doctor’s office.
What Lance didn’t know was that this appointment would change his life forever.
It would not only rip his wife out of his life, but it would also change the way he felt about her.
The Results Were Back
When Lance arrived at the office, the receptionist rushed him to the doctor. Doctor Grover looked between Lance and Cody before saying, “The results are back.”
Lance sat down opposite the doctor, relieved that he would finally get the answers he sought. But things wouldn’t be that simple.
The doctor knew something that he wasn’t ready to share just yet.
Something Wasn’t Right
The first thing the doctor asked Lance to do was change the baby’s diaper. But he didn’t want him to use one of his own diapers.
He had bought some specifically for this case.
Lance was confused, but he did what the doctor asked nonetheless. After that, the doctor did another examination on the baby.
Laced With Tension
But Lance could tell that something was wrong. The doctor was taking far too long. It was almost like he was dragging this out.
Plus, the air around them was thick with tension. If Lance didn’t know any better, he would say that the doctor had found something he didn’t want to share.
But what could that possibly be?
Unable To Explain
“What’s wrong with my son?” Lance asked as he got fed up with the little game they were playing.
The doctor motioned to his desk, and the two of them took a seat.
“I’m afraid I can’t tell you that,” Doctor Grover said. He gave Lance a sympathetic look, but it did nothing to calm the man.
Getting Impatient
“Why not?” Lance asked as his patience started slipping. “Because it’s not within my jurisdiction to talk about such things,” the doctor said.
That confused Lance even more. How could a doctor not be able to discuss a medical problem?
Lance was just about to ask that very question when someone knocked on the door.
A Knock On The Door
Lance looked at the doctor, who seemed to be incredibly relieved. It looked like he was expecting the knock.
Was this some kind of excuse to get out of the consultation without giving Lance any answers?
The thought irritated Lance. It wasn’t like he was asking the doctor for money. All he wanted was to find out what was wrong with his son.
Finally Getting Answers
The doctor opened the door, and two police officers came in. That was the last thing Lance was expecting. Was he in some kind of trouble?
“They can tell you what’s going on here,” the doctor said as he took his seat once more. The officers approached and started explaining that the diapers were what caused his son’s illness.

Disbelief
Lance couldn’t believe what he was hearing. How could diapers be an illicit substance? As soon as he asked that question, the officer showed him the symbol he had seen on Cody’s diaper. But this time, it wasn’t on a diaper.
“These diapers are illegally produced,” one of the officers said. “They haven’t been passed through the FDA yet, so they have no approval.
Do you know where you got them?”
Trying To Protect Her
That was when it dawned on him. Lance hadn’t actually bought the last batch of diapers. Rebecca had brought them with her when she came from work.
But there was no way he was going to throw his wife under the bus.
“I don’t remember how I got these diapers,” Lance said. But he should’ve known better than to lie to the police.
They Had All The Evidence
When he gave his answer, the female officer pulled a picture out of a file she was holding and handed it to him. “Do you know this woman?” she asked.
Lance’s expression instantly changed. The woman in the picture was his wife.
And he had no idea why she would leave some sleazy warehouse in the middle of the night.
What Was Happening?
“What’s going on here?” Lance asked when he finally managed to get back his voice. The officers shared a look, letting him know that his life was about to change.
“Your wife isn’t who you think she is,” the female officer said as she tried to comfort Lance.
But it was too late. His perfect little world had already been shattered.
Pieces Of The Truth
The truth was so much worse than Lance thought it would be. Even though the officers didn’t know everything, they knew enough to turn his world upside down.
And it all started when Rebecca decided to take her career in a different direction.
She stole the formula her employers used to make diapers and decided to go into business by herself.
Illegal Operation
Rebecca hired some backstreet chemists to develop the diapers, but those guys came with certain risks. And she wasn’t fully aware of what exactly they had been putting into the diapers.
So when the first batch was ready, she decided to take them home and try them on the only baby she could test them on- her son. Lance was furious, and he swore he would make her pay for what she had done.
