Allyson Feliz, the most decorated woman in Olympic track and field history, is pioneering a groundbreaking initiative for athlete mothers at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Teaming up with Pampers, Allyson has announced the launch of the first-ever nursery at the Olympic Village.

Supporting Athlete Mothers

Situated at the heart of the Athletes’ Village Plaza, this nursery is designed to provide a haven for Olympic mothers to bond with and care for their babies amidst the pressure of competition. “It was top of mind to support athletes who are mothers,” Allyson shared with NBC Olympics. “It’s a space where families can get away from it all and have some of the comforts of home. They can have playtime and have places to feed their babies.”

A Voice For Athlete Moms

Allyson, who recently joined the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Athletes’ Commission, is dedicated to being an advocate for athlete mothers. The nursery will offer Pampers-brand baby products along with spaces for playtime and family bonding.

Allyson Felix’s own journey to motherhood was not easy. In 2018, she faced a life-threatening pregnancy complication called preeclampsia, leading to an emergency C-section. Her daughter, Camryn, was born prematurely and spent her first month in a NICU. Nevertheless, Allyson returned to competition and continued to excel, winning gold in the 4x400m relay and bronze in the 400m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Pioneering Change

This initiative also extends beyond the Olympic Nursery. Allyson has been a staunch advocate for athlete mothers, creating a childcare fund in 2021 and securing a $20 million grant from the Melinda French Gates Foundation to support Black maternal health. “This is a shift in culture,” she said. “It’s saying that motherhood isn’t the end. If you choose to be a mother in the midst of your career, you can still go and have incredible performances.”

Through her partnership with Pampers, Allyson is also supporting families who experience premature births. The company has committed to donating up to one million diapers to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through purchases at Walmart.

Looking Forward

As Allyson and her family prepare to travel to Paris, she remains optimistic about Team USA’s performance. “Our team is so strong,” she said. Among athletes representing the US is new mother Elle St. Pierre, who will compete in the women’s 1500m. Allyson expressed her excitement for St. Pierre, noting, “I’ve been following her and look forward to her competing.”

With the launch of the Olympic Village nursery, Allyson is not only making history but also paving the way for future generations of athlete mothers. Her commitment to supporting moms in sports exemplifies her legacy both on and off the track.
