Destiny Stephens-Coull was a regular college girl. She went out every chance she could to party with her friends. All while harboring something inside her that she didn’t know was there. The end of college was in sight, and she had already been accepted into a university for the following year when something unexpected would happen. The college student juggled school with a part-time job at a local Nando’s. The job helped pay for necessities as well as fuel her ability to go out with her friends on weekends.

A Fateful Day

But one fateful day in April 2022 would change her life unexpectedly. Destiny felt period cramps, which was bizarre for her. She thought that she was only due for another two weeks. Still, she ignored the pain and continued with her shift, but things escalated in the blink of an eye when she started bleeding heavily. Nothing would help, and she rushed to A&E with her uniform soaked. Things would take a turn as Destiny passed out from blood loss.

Pregnant

Thankfully, she was rushed to hospital and woke up with nurses surrounding her. Destiny was surprised to learn that she lost 4 liters of blood during the ordeal and was going through several transfusions. Shocked and confused, the nurses asked her a fateful question that she didn’t expect. They asked if she was pregnant. Just a week earlier, Destiny had been going out clubbing and enjoying her 18-year-old life. But with that question, things were turned around. She said no, but doubt crept into her mind. The nurses confirmed that she was six months pregnant. How could that be? She looked completely normal and had gained no extra weight. Her belly was flat. With all of her clubbing and drinking, she was scared. Without the courage to tell her mother, she got her midwife to break the news.

Giving Birth

Destiny had to be brave as what came next took a lot of courage. She gave birth to her son, who she named Kingsley. The child was in danger as he was born 10 weeks premature. After a long battle, he made it through and despite being heavily underweight, he was okay. Now, two years later, Destiny and little Kingsley are doing well, and even though he was an unexpected baby, Destiny loves her like any mother does. She went from clubbing as an 18-year-old to being a mother overnight.
