What Are The Best Positions For Sex With My Pregnant Wife?

Pregnancy alters many things between partners. Sex is not an exception. During pregnancy, your wife’s body undergoes numerous changes both on internally and externally.

In many cases, the hormones produced by a woman’s body during pregnancy raise her libido. So you might find that one minute she’s yelling at you and the next minute she wants sex with you.

Be aware that you can’t just roll around as you used to, there’s a little someone growing inside of her.

Her body has also changed in a big way and some positions may not be as comfortable for her as they used to be.

Here is a guide on how to keep the intimacy alive during your wife’s pregnancy.

Is it okay to have sex when she is pregnant?

Unless she has been having pregnancy complications associated with pre-term labor or miscarriages, you can have sex anytime, any day.

Whether she wants to is another matter.

Each pregnant woman will have different needs and wants and the level of her desire is likely to ebb and flow.

Some may experience an enhanced sex drive, while others will have none or little. She may swing between extremes too. It’s completely unpredictable so do your best to accept this and go with the flow.

If you are lucky enough to continue having an intimate relationship during pregnancy, this article will come in handy.

Let’s take a look at the best positions to have sex with your partner during each of the three trimesters of pregnancy.

First Trimester

During the first three months, the mother-to-be will barely show any outward signs of pregnancy. I personally love this period because sex can still be fun without too much caution. This is a time when you can still have sex in any position. However, as mentioned earlier, the safety of the baby still matters.

Safe Sex Positions for 1st Trimester

During this period a couple can enjoy all positions: Kama Sutra styles, missionary, doggy style. Any position is fine during this period.

Sex Don’ts during Trimester 1

  • The pregnancy is still at a delicate stage. Don’t go too wild.
  • If she notices any spotting after sex then you may need to go a little easier.
  • Avoid the use of lubricants or anything else that could tamper with your wife’s vagina.
  • To avoid vaginal infections, refrain from anal sex.

Trimester 2

The second trimester is the time between the 13th week after conception to the 27th week. By this time, some earlier symptoms like nausea and fatigue begin to fade away.

As a result, your pregnant partner will often be energetic and fully recharged for sex and other activities that spice up life. During this time, she can already feel the baby make tiny movements inside of her. The movements may increase when you are having sex and when she is about to reach orgasm.

Best Positions for Trimester 2

She on top:

As opposed to the old missionary style, mom-to-be can be on top. This is not only fun but it also helps keep pressure off the baby (the tummy). In this position, she can support herself easily.

Let’s go scissors!

To have sex in this position, both partners lie face-to-face on their sides. All that is needed is for the female to raise her leg to accept intercourse.

Doggy style

The pregnant partner supports herself on all fours, i.e. her hands and knees are on the ground or mattress. Standing behind, her male partner can easily perform intercourse. This position provides relief on her abdomen and back.

Spooning

In this position, the partners lie on their sides facing the same direction with the female’s back to her partner’s front. This also gives the pregnant partner relief from back strain and support to the abdomen.

Don’ts

The missionary position may be tricky and uncomfortable. Putting pressure on your partner’s abdomen, her blood vessels could be squeezed, and this could inhibit the blood flow to the placenta.

Trimester Three

During this trimester, the pregnancy has progressed and the abdomen is truly enlarged. The good news is that she is almost due. During this time you should be very careful not to burst the amniotic fluid; be gentle because she most probably is experiencing various body-aches, cramps, and back pain. Health experts recommend that she does not engage in penetrative sex in the four weeks prior to the expected due date.

Safe Positions for Trimester 2

During this period, spooning and doggy style are still effective but it is important to be gentle.

Don’ts

  • Don’t engage in missionary style sex
  • Avoid deep penetrations or any sexual positions that require it.

Having sex is a sure way of continued bonding between partners during the pregnancy journey. As long as she has not had medical advisory against it, then it is okay to keep having sex until the last month of the pregnancy.

Here are instances when you should avoid having sex with your pregnant partner:

  • If she has any cervical complication
  • If she experiences bleeding during her pregnancy
  • In case her amniotic fluid has developed leakage
  • If she has had premature labour or miscarried before.

If you can put the above into practice, then you can continue having thrilling bedroom times with your partner even in her pregnancy.
