How to Convert Weeks into Months During Pregnancy
Advertisment

Converting how many weeks pregnant you are into months pregnant is frankly pretty confusing. This is because months are not neatly packaged into exactly 4-week chunks. We have those extra few days each month messing everything up.

If we wanted to be REALLY precise, each month has either 4.28 or 4.43 weeks in it (except February). But the only way to convert it into months is to round up or down to the nearest week or look for weeks to months pregnancy converter.

That means rounding up to 5 weeks or rounding down to 4 weeks. Whatever App or image you use to do the conversion you’ll see some months are shown with 4 weeks and some as 5 weeks. There’s no other way to do it without using decimals and who wants to do that?!

There’ll be many times during your pregnancy when you find yourself drifting off into calculations of days, weeks and months trying to work out exactly how far along you are.

How many days, weeks and months are actually in a full-term pregnancy?

When you count from the first day of your last period (which is how pregnancy weeks are calculated by your doctor) there are around 280 days in a full-term pregnancy.

That equals 10 months if we calculate by dividing by 28 days – 4 week months. But we all know that most months have more days than that.

Just to make it more tricky, a pregnancy, when counted from LMP (last menstrual period), is actually 9 ½ months because of those extra days we need to add on to each month. No wonder it gets confusing.

So how do you calculate pregnancy weeks into months?

There are various ways of splitting up the weeks into months and we’ll show you a few options. Unfortunately, there’s no way around the fact that we need to overestimate or underestimate at some points to account for those extra days we mentioned before.

The first list below is a pretty accurate guide but you’ll notice that the first month and the fifth month have been allotted an extra week to account for the extra 2 or 3 days on each month.

While the other months have only been allotted 4 weeks each. Yeah. I know. But there’s really no way around it. Let’s not even mention February. That would REALLY make things confusing.

  • 2nd  Month of Pregnancy – Weeks 5-8
  • 3rd Month of Pregnancy – weeks 9-13
  • 4th Month of Pregnancy – weeks 14-17
  • 5th Month of Pregnancy – weeks 18-22
  • 6th Month of Pregnancy – weeks 23-27
  • 7th Month of Pregnancy – weeks 28-31

The Three Trimesters of Pregnancy in Weeks and Months

  • Trimester 1 – weeks 1 – 13 = months 1-3
  • Trimester 2 – weeks 14 – 27 = months 4-6
  • Trimester 3 – weeks 28 – 40 = months 7-9

I realize that none of these conversion tables are perfect but unless we start working with decimal points it’s never going to be!
